Mission Statement
Welcome to the Farr 40 Chesapeake Fleet, a fleet as diverse as its owners and crew.
The International Farr 40 Class is an arena for owners and crew to compete on even terms, at the regional, national and international level, culminating in the annual Rolex Farr 40 World Championship.
The mission of the Farr 40 Chesapeake Fleet is to bring this competition home to the friendly waters of the Chesapeake Bay, reviving offshore one-design racing of a grand-prix boat and fleet. To be a One-Design fleet within the Farr 40 class dictates joining the membership and adopting the rules of this class; this is the only way by which to host class sanctioned events. An active fleet in good standing with the class provides the strength, stability and credibility necessary for continued growth of the fleet. The Farr 40 Chesapeake Fleet shares this perspective and has built our fleet on the strength of this class.
Collectively, our interest in the Farr 40 stems from the desire to race an exciting offshore one-design, as owner/helmsmen in a fleet with stability and longevity but with some cost-controls. At the local level, this class and boat provides the perfect platform for excellent racing at manageable costs. At the core of the Chesapeake Fleet mission is this understanding: For all class sanctioned events, the class rules must be applied and enforced, while for local one-design events the class rules still apply but on an “Honor-System” with some assumed and logical tolerance. Further to this, the Farr 40 Chesapeake Fleet stresses fair play and a more “Corinthian” approach to Farr 40 racing for local events. The Chesapeake Fleet, through its organization of owners, is diligent in maintaining this focus.
